Friday: We Made It!!!!

3 May

Can I express right now how happy I am that it is Friday??????

This has been a long week to say the least, and I will be RUNNING out of my day job when 4:45 hits.  I have been completely in my own world of school and work stuff that I forgot it is the most magical time of year: CINCO DE MAYO!!!!  For me this means heading to Lauriol Plaza, or my deck and consuming large quantities of tequila with my friend Melissa, while creating podcast the world will never hear.  Fun times.

My son, “The Hitter” has a best friend in his pre school class!  Can I tell you how happy I was to get this piece of information?  When you are the mother of  “The Hitter” (or “The Biter”) you worry that your child will never find friends because they are busy slapping and pushing all the kids in the class.  When I came to pick him up yesterday he ran toward me with a huge grin and said, “Mommy!  Meet my best friend Lauryn!!”  Lauryn came up and they stood there and hugged each other as a sign of their friendship.  It was sweet, and I hope it last.

Nine year old girls are like rubic cubes.  I am the mother of one, and I must say this is a weird age that I am parenting through.  My daughter has always been a very quiet and shy child and she is still one as she is getting older.  I am trying to find a way to communicate with her or let her know that she can talk to me.  You know that phrase, “A Mother Knows” ?  I feel like my daughter has a lot of questions and things she wants to get off her chest, but I will not lie, it is hard to talk with a three-year old shoving a picture of Hello Kitty in your face as you are trying to ask your daughter about her crumbling friendship with her frenemy (which I taught her is a horrible thing….friends are not enemies) Haylie.

This Sunday after a lot of false starts I will attempting a long run of 6 miles.  That may not fit the actual “long run” category, but this will be my longest run and I am interested to see how it goes.  I am not so focused on mileage as I am learning how to pace myself when it comes to longer distances.  When I ran the Race to Stop the Silence 8k, I found that I tried to run that race at a 5k pace and I was dead by mile 3.  I need to learn how to pull back and push at the right times.  My sister did something interesting when she ran last weekend that helped her remember what pace she should be going and where she should be at what time.  She wrote the splits on her arm and I am going to do that on Sunday.  That is a good visual to let me know if I am going too fast or if I am going too slow.

May you all enjoy this weekend and remember….beer before liquor….makes you throw up quicker…Happy Cinco de Mayo!!!!!!

Do it! That’s what my plan is. Just eff it. Put it out there. Because as many folks that may not like it, there will be tons more that will.
