The Quiet Place

17 May

Something very odd has been going on in my house the last week or so.  Let me start by saying, that I have always needed some kind of background noise when I go to bed.  I own every kind of “white noise” machine on the market and if I get tired of those I always have the bathroom fan or the TV.  Since I could remember, I have slept with my TV on.

How I feel when I get into bed

To save my electric bill, the sleep timer is a must.  The last few weeks, however I have found myself enjoying the silence of my home when my children are asleep.  It provides a moment to still my mind before I go to bed, a moment to just enjoy the stillness.  Last night, I had every intention in the world of staying up to watch the season finale of Scandal, but when I got out of the shower I noticed how quiet it was and how peacefully lit my room was with the fading daylight giving the room this beautiful kind of glow.  After I dried off, I put on my pajamas and I slid into my bed and did some deep breathing and drifted to sleep.  I noticed that I woke up in a better mood this morning and I felt refreshed.  If this is what good sleep feels like, then I will give up my night time TV time.

Today marks one year since I relocated and I feel like celebrating this weekend.  I don’t want to do anything to wild, but I know a trip to the National Mall with the kids is on my schedule as well as The Color Run in MD on Sunday.  The jury is still out on the Taste of Arlington, but I did some research on the site and I think it is going to be a great time.  Plus they will have Angry Orchard so I am halfway sold on going.

It’s time to get some work done at the “day job” and by work, I mean:
