Mini Road Trip and Letting Go

19 Jun

Today I went back home to take my daughter to spend the summer with her grandmother. It was a happy time for all of us, because I hadn’t seen my mom since Christmas. My trip had another reason: I had to go to court to start the process of terminating the rights of my ex-husband. Before you wield your pitchforks, I need to explain a few things. My son is three years old and he has not seen his father in two years. Do that math. He does his best to not disclose where he is living or working. To give you an idea, he doesn’t see his son because he has warrants for felony theft and failure to provide support and capias. He pops up only when DCSE locates him and the withhold what is owed. He then quits that job, and along with that stops calling to check on his son. This whole process is unfair to my son. This last time, Chunk cried and ask if he could call his dad. His dad changed his number so I had no way to call. The whole thing broke my heart. My son is a happy and bright little boy and I don’t want him destroyed by having his heartbroken by his father’s song and dance. Also it’s not promised that I will live forever, so I want to know that my son would not be split from his sister and placed with man who can’t even take care of himself. Because of the laws I have to do this to ensure my worse fears don’t come true. I wrote Chunk a letter letting him know I did everything I could, and I made this decision for his well being. It’s going to be a process (since I have no address to serve him with) but its going to get done.
After returning home I needed a warm shower and my bed. I did just that, cuddled beside my little man watching The Lorax.
