My Commute: Red Line Mayhem

Live from the commuter bus…today’s post!!!

I just want to rant about the awesomeness that was my commute home. One of my best friends. Birdie was up here on a quick little trip to the outlets. I told her I would SURELY be home by 6:30, because that is usually when I get home. That is, until I experienced the horrors of the Red Line and single tracking. I arrived on the platform and heard the announcer on the intercom announce the trains were not moving until further notice. Faaaaaaaawwwwkkkk!!!! I am hardly a master of the DC Metro system, so I had no idea what to do next, Do I wait? Do I try to take a bus? I decided in the latter and navigated the staggered rows of signs in the stifling heat, I saw the bus going to Pleasant Plains and the ONLY reason I got on that bus is because I slightly remembered seeing buses with that destination in Columbia Heights. I rode this bus all around Robin Hood’s barn to FINALLY get to the Georgia Avenue metro. After a million billion stops and a mini breakdown in the Gallery Place station because I could not get to the Shady Grove train, I was finally at the stop for the commuter bus. The only problem was it was 6:15 and my son’s daycare closes at 6:30….yeah. With 5 percent battery life left, I called my aunt and prayed to the high heavens that she was home. She was, and she agreed to pick up The Boy. When the bus arrived, I hopped on and I slept the whole way home. The plan for today? GREEN LINE!!!
