Orange is the New Black: My Two Cents

16 Jul

This weekend when I went to do my usual binge watching of Grey’s Anatomy, I noticed there was a banner on top of my Netflix queue advertising a new Netflix series titled, “Orange is the New Black.”  I decided to give it a chance because A) I love Jenji Kohan’s series entitled “Weeds” and B) I love Netflix’s concept of making it’s own original series.  OITNB centers around Piper Chapman, an upper class New Yorker who is sentenced to 15 months in jail for drug trafficking in her younger years.  What impressed me most about this series is THE CAST!!!  I remembered Laura Prepon from “That 70’s Show” and she appears here as Alex, Piper’s former lover, and may I say that she looks hot with dark hair.  The show reminds me of a combination of “OZ”, with the flashbacks of each prisoner’s story and of course, “Weeds.  There is also appearances by Taryn Manning who plays a meth addict turned holy roller and Natasha Lyonne, who plays Nickles a lesbian heroine addict.  Jason Biggs plays Piper’s finance and I was surprised how well he was able to do serious acting, since the only things I have seen him in are the American Pie series.

Have you seen OITNB?  Any Thoughts?

Ok I may check it out now. I loved Weeds but since I wasn’t all that impressed when Netflix came out with Hemlock Grove, I just scrolled by this one.

1.5 episodes in and I’m sold.
The cast is outstanding and I am already fully invested in Chapman and the other inmates stories.

That is what I loved the most, THE CAST!!! They are such a random group of really good actors! I’m watching it again tonight!
